Bologna October 21, 2017, Icon of Donna is the symbol and heart of the Fashion Research Italy project that will be presented to the grand public today in the completely renovated spaces of Via del Fonditore no. 12.
A sculpture of light strongly desired by Alberto Masotti, former patron of the La Perla fashion group, which conveys the values and mission of the FRI Foundation, realized to celebrate Made in Italy fashion and innovation in a formative and aggregative perspective. A tribute to femininity and the strong bond that unites women with fashion, a universal concept that eliminates every cultural and linguistic barrier.
Advanced technology, design and innovation blend together in an installation that aims to engage the senses through visual and audio suggestions of a digital outfit that dresses the sinuous silhouette of the LED statue.
A fabric of lights that evokes the glitter of diamonds, thanks to its 21.120 LEDs that create the Icon of Donna, which illustrates in a very creative key the archival heritage of over 30,000 textile drawing designs collected within the Renzo Brandone Fund acquired by the Foundation in 2015 by a former converter of Milan, cataloged and digitized.
A work of art but also an innovative marketing tool, the luminous installation “humanizes” a thought, transforming itself into a fascinating and evocative visual manifesto. An icon of lights as well as a true sensory and emotional experience.
Among the biggest human-figure LED sculptures in the world, Icon of Donna is over ten meters tall.
An important record that emphasizes the value of a work in art in which the medium anticipates the message and completes it by transforming the icon into a multi-sensory experience, an ambassador of an ambitious project aimed at enhancing Made in Italy Innovation and the preservation of Fashion Heritage.
Statue of Donna: an emotional installation that celebrates fashion and women together at the same time. Icon and symbol of the future headquarters of the Fashion Research Italy Foundation in Bologna.
An avant-garde learning center for instilling the know-how of fashion: Made in Italy training and innovation.
In a nutshell: The Fashion Research Italy Foundation.
The non-profit project was founded at the historic headquarters of the La Perla Group, at Via del Fonditore no. 12 in Bologna, presided over by Alberto Masotti, who invested 15 million euros to give life to his dream of creating a large training-exhibition center, positively futuristic, a sort of permanent workshop with a strong technological imprint, where one can learn, experiment, and share quality and excellent professionalism, from a product to marketing to communication.
A “home” open to new talent and new creative trends, which in a mix of design and technology, harvests the expression of the three macro areas of the Foundation: protection of heritage, training and innovation.
Senso – Immersive Experience, a creative studio headed by Mick Odelli, specialized in Immersive Storytelling and avant-garde hi-tech installations with a high emotional content, stepped up and created its icon, a symbol and heart of the center dedicated to fashion.
After witnessing the completion of the installation, Mick Odelli commented: “My team and I love projects like this that allow us to experiment and create innovative and original solutions. Our team had worked closely with our Research & Development department in a constant dialogue among aesthetic and technical dimensions”.
A complex work that required four months of planning, another four months for searching for the best suppliers, one month for setting up and one month for the installation.
“The Statue of Donna was realized to celebrate femininity and the deep bond that links women to the history of fashion. Universal concepts that are illustrated as such by involving the senses through visual and audio suggestions, which come to life in a precious outfit that we imagined entirely covered by glittering diamonds”, says Nicoletta Caporaletti, Key Account of Senso – Immersive Experience and Project Manager of the project, who continued, “Awesomeness magnificently rendered by the lightweight spheres that enclose the LED technology that will allow one to animate the sculpture and illustrate in a creative way the more than 30,000 drawings of textile design collected within the Renzo Brandone Fund, acquired by the Foundation. The concept was born from the double soul of the sculpture which, through a highly innovative technology, intends to give value to the incredible history of Made in Italy design and manufacturing.”
The 21.120 LEDs inserted in 5280 white opal spheres make the Statue of Donna one of the biggest 3D LED sculptures in the world. An important record that accentuates the value of a work of art in which the medium and the message blend emphasizing the emotional aspect, transforming the icon into a multisensory experience, as Odelli states: “This sculpture represents the most artistic soul of Senso, united together with an advanced technology. On the one hand, it represents the extreme versatility of a studio where engineers, architects and artists sit at the same table. On the other, it is the tangible expression of the idea that the medium is never neutral. Technology is the means by which, even before the message, a part of what we intend to communicate promises in essence.”
The dedication of the work of art is special: to Olga Cantelli, the most creative and fascinating designer of the La Perla Group.
The visual and audio suggestions evoke the femininity inherent in fashion and give life to a narrative that takes shape through a dress that is transformed: a captivating fabric that takes on the appearance of the thousands of textures of the Renzo Brandone Fund, cataloged and digitized by the Foundation.
But above all (at the will of Alberto Masotti), Statue of Donna represents the fashion artisans and factories that have always populated the Emilia Romagna Region, creating products of the highest quality. Milestones that have helped build the Made in Italy brand and keep it strong.
The female icon has found its home at the splendid headquarters of Fashion Research Italy and will be the fascinating ambassador of the project.
